Terms of service
Last updated 2 November 2026.
These terms apply when you use PickAndRank. By creating an account, creating an event or joining one, you agree to them.
The service
PickAndRank lets organizers create events with limited places, and places participants based on their rankings. Placement aims to be fair and good, but it can't promise everyone a place or their first choice. We may improve or change the service over time.
Your account
You need to be old enough to enter into these terms where you live, and if you use PickAndRank for an organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept them for it. Keep access to your email safe, because that's how you log in. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
Your license to use the service
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use PickAndRank under these terms. It lasts until you stop using the service or your access ends. It doesn't let you resell or sublicense the service, copy it, or take apart its code, except where the law says you can.
If you're an organizer
- You're responsible for your events, and for the decisions you make from their results.
- You must have the right to collect participants' data, and tell them how it's used.
- If your event involves children, you must have the permission the law and your organization require.
- Don't ask for sensitive information, like health details, in event text or options.
- You handle requests from participants about their data. We'll help where we can.
If you're taking part
The organizer runs the event and decides what happens with its results. Keep your private code to yourself, and give your own answers. Questions about an event go to its organizer.
Acceptable use
Don't break the law, send spam, harass or abuse anyone, impersonate others, upload harmful code, get around plan limits, attack, hack or overload the service, copy it by automated means, or try to reach data that isn't yours. Don't cheat an event either, for example by signing up more than once or using someone else's code. We may remove content, or suspend or close accounts, that break these terms.
Your content
You keep what's yours. You let us store and process it only to run the service. You can delete events and your account at any time from within the app.
Our intellectual property
The service belongs to us, including its code, design, illustrations, logo, name and brand, and the same goes for how it places people. Using it doesn't give you any of those rights, beyond the license above. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
Plans and payment
Every event is free up to the Free plan's limits. You can upgrade one event with an event pass, or buy a yearly plan. The prices and limits are on the pricing page.
Polar sells our upgrades as the seller of record. It takes the payment, issues the receipt, and handles sales tax and VAT. Polar's own terms also apply to the payment.
- An event pass covers one event, from when you pay until that event is deleted. Its limits stay with the event.
- A yearly plan covers all your events while it runs, including ones you already have, and each keeps its limits afterwards. It renews automatically each year until you cancel. We'll tell you before a renewal price changes.
- You can cancel a yearly plan at any time under Manage billing on your Account page. It keeps working until the end of the year you've paid for.
- If a renewal payment fails, the plan keeps working for 7 days while the payment is retried. After that, new events open with Free limits.
Refunds
You can get a full refund within 14 days of paying, as long as the event hasn't been placed yet. For a yearly plan, that means none of the events it covers has been placed. To ask for one, write to us through the Contact page with the email you paid with and which event it was for. We issue refunds through Polar, and they go back to the card you paid with.
After a refund, the event goes back to the limits it would otherwise have. Everyone who signed up stays, and published results stay visible. Emails stop, and placing or adding more people than the limit allows needs a new upgrade, or fewer people.
Your right to cancel
If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, you can cancel a purchase within 14 days. An upgrade applies the moment you pay, because you ask for it to start straight away. If you cancel before the event has been placed, you get a full refund. Once it has been placed, the service has been fully provided, and you agree that the right to cancel ends then.
Disclaimers
We work to keep the service running and your data safe, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including that it will never crash, be interrupted, contain errors or lose data, or that it will suit a particular purpose. Keep your own copy of results you rely on, using the CSV or Excel download or the print view.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses from using the service, for crashes, downtime or lost data, for decisions made from its results, or for events beyond our reasonable control. Nothing here limits any rights the law says can't be limited.
Ending
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may end the service with reasonable notice, and we'll give you time to download your data. The parts of these terms that are meant to last, like Limitation of liability, still apply afterwards.
Changes
We'll update this page when these terms change, and tell organizers by email about anything important. If you keep using the service after a change, the new terms apply.
General
These terms and our privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about the service. If part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to. We may pass these terms to whoever takes over the service, and we'll tell organizers if that happens.
